There is nothing but silence. It stretches on for a long interval, becoming heavy and foreboding as it continues to drag on, winding out into nothingess. Finally, there is a soft sound like the rasp of a dry leaf scraping along the ground. It stops after a moment and the pause that follows is longer. And then a sigh, a soft low tone like wind playing over the neck of a bottle. It breaks off and the quietness flows back, reclaiming the atmosphere as tidewater reclaims the shore, pervasive and enveloping. The silence endures, reigning unchallenged in this cold, bleak and lonely cell.
